The Aberfeldy Socials series launched in E14, East London with Beads & Jazz, a creative community event held on Thursday 26th March at the Aberfeldy Marketing Suite. The evening brought together local residents for a relaxed and engaging experience centred around creativity, culture, and connection.
As the first event in the Aberfeldy Socials programme, Beads & Jazz introduced a new series of East London community events designed to bring people together through accessible, creative activities. Guests were invited to design and create their own personalised accessories while enjoying a live jazz soundtrack, setting the tone for a welcoming and sociable atmosphere.
Open to all skill levels, the workshop encouraged participants to explore the art of beading, producing handcrafted items such as phone charms, bracelets, and lanyards to take home. A live DJ played smooth jazz throughout the evening, enhancing the laid-back environment and creating space for guests to unwind and connect with others in the E14 community.
The session was led by Sante Koranteng, founder of SANTE, a London-based accessories brand with roots in Accra, Ghana. Drawing on a five-generation family craft tradition dating back to the 1800s, Sante guided participants through beading techniques inspired by Ghanaian heritage. Attendees also gained insight into the cultural significance behind the materials and methods used.
SANTE sources its beads directly from markets in Accra, working closely with family-run suppliers and women-led bead traders. This approach supports local craft communities while promoting fair pay and preserving traditional skills. The workshop offered not only a creative outlet, but also a deeper connection to the stories behind each piece.
The success of Beads & Jazz marked a strong start for Aberfeldy Socials in East London, highlighting the demand for community-led events in E14 that combine creativity, culture, and social connection. With a focus on inclusivity and shared experiences, the series is quickly becoming a valued part of the local events calendar.
